DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Vintage Racing Company (VRC), a long-established Porsche race shop, announces its 2026 entry into IMSA competition with a full season in both the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge and the Michelin Pilot Challenge championships.
The team will be led by newcomer driver Dan Ammann, who shares driving duties with series veteran and past IMSA champion, Owen Trinkler. Ammann is coming off his second full season in Porsche Sprint Challenge with the support of VRC. Additionally, the driving duo will welcome 24-Hour of Daytona winner, Darren Law as the third driver in the BMW M Endurance Challenge at Daytona Michelin Pilot Challenge race on Friday, January 23.
VRC will campaign a Porsche GT4 Cayman 718 Clubsport with Ammann and Trinkler for the IMSA competition season, in the GS category. The team will proudly display the iconic and highly recognizable Mobil 1 Pegasus livery on their No. 91 Cayman.
Ammann, who in 2025 ran an impressive season in Porsche Sprint Challenge, finishing third in the endurance championship, is excited about entering the IMSA series, “I’m looking forward to driving again with Owen as we step up to this next level of competition with the ongoing support of the awesome team we’ve been building at VRC.”
VRC owner, Michael Eberhardt, an Australian native, has long been involved in vintage racing with IMSA’s sister series, Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR), as well as other vintage and sportscar racing series in the US and Europe. Known for their exceptional race prep and track support, this will mark VRC’s first full season in IMSA competition.
Eberhardt commented, “Stepping into a full IMSA season is a major milestone for VRC. We’ve built our reputation on preparation, attention to detail and supporting our drivers the right way. This program reflects years of hard work toward competing at the highest level with the right people.
“I’m very excited to start this next chapter for VRC. From our beginnings with historic Porsches to now competing with modern Porsches in IMSA, this program highlights the full scope of VRC’s experience, capability and evolution as a team.”
2026 will mark Owen Trinkler’s return to full-time racing. Trinkler, the 2018 IMSA GS Driver’s Champion, has been sidelined for a couple years from a race car fire which took place during testing at Daytona in December 2023.
Trinkler’s intensive, years-long recovery has been life changing and has resulted in the creation of his Foundation Strength In Scars to benefit burn victims.
Trinkler explains, “A third of my body sustained burns with the worst on my left arm from both the fire and melted window plastic. My family has been amazing working toward my recovery and I know that I have received the best care available from both the Vanderbilt Burn Center and Dearing Clinic. It’s simply a long, arduous process of recovery from burns.
“It’s been great testing the Cayman and being back in a race car. Dan has been inspiring in his efforts to hone his race craft and constantly improve. He’s become a student of the sport and continuously getting quicker on every track. Together with Dan and the great team at VRC we’ve come a long way in the past couple years and feel confident moving into IMSA competition. Daytona has always been one of my favorite tracks. The season kick-off endurance race is a special one where I’ve been able to earn several podium finishes”.
Darren Law, who has championships and wins in a multitude of racing vehicles and series, is best known for his time driving with Flying Lizard Motorsports, which he now owns.
Said Law of his return to Daytona, “I am looking forward to getting back in a Porsche and competing at Daytona. I have a great deal of history and success at this track, and Daytona is a special place for me. This is a great way to begin the season.
“I was able to test with the team in December and spend valuable time with Dan and Owen. Both are very quick drivers, and we worked well together from the outset. This is a great event, as I always enjoy the challenge. Hopefully we can deliver a strong result for the team.”
Before the 4-hour IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge endurance race, Ammann will mount a solo effort racing in the VP Racing Sportscar Challenge at Daytona which encompasses two 45-minute sprint races on Saturday, January 17 and Sunday, January 18. Both VP races, as well as the Michelin Pilot endurance race, will air live on Peacock TV.
