Ligier Automotive North America Launches LMP3 Bronze Driver Prize with Entry to Legends of Le Mans at Le Mans 2027

Ligier Automotive North America (LANA) today announces the creation of a new driver incentive program within the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, reinforcing Ligier’s commitment to supporting driver progression across its global motorsport ecosystem.

Building on Ligier Automotive’s strong global footprint—spanning LMP3 dominance, upcoming LMP2 and GT platforms, and a comprehensive ladder for endurance racing—this initiative is designed to reward teams and drivers competing within the Ligier system in North America.

At the conclusion of the 2026 IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge season, the top Bronze-rated driver competing in a Ligier LMP3—either the Ligier JS P320 or the Ligier JS P325—across the remaining nine races (including three endurance races and six sprint races) will be awarded a unique opportunity: a race seat in a Ligier JS P2 at the prestigious Legends of Le Mans event during the 24 Hours of Le Mans week in June 2027.

A gateway to Le Mans

The prize will place the winning driver on one of the most iconic stages in motorsport: the Le Mans track for the Legends of Le Mans race meeting, held during the week of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2027. It includes full race entry, car operation, tires, and fuel for the Legends of Le Mans race.

Launched in 2025, the Legends of Le Mans Series celebrates the golden era of modern endurance racing by bringing together LMP1, LMP2, and GTE machinery from the 2000s to the 2020s. The championship features prestigious venues such as Imola, Spa-Francorchamps, Bahrain, and Le Mans, where it runs alongside FIA World Endurance Championship events.

“This is about creating continuity across everything we do at Ligier,” explains Mo Murray, CEO of LANA. “We have a strong presence globally—from LMP3 to upcoming LMP2 and GT platforms—and we want that to translate into real opportunities for the drivers racing with us here in North America. This award is a way of recognizing that commitment and offering a meaningful and aspirational pathway—one that connects North American racing directly to the Le Mans ecosystem.”

The Ligier JS P2: a modern endurance icon

The selected car, the Ligier JS P2, is one of the most successful LMP2 prototypes of its era and a cornerstone in Ligier Automotive’s modern history.

Introduced in 2014 following the brand’s revival under Jacques Nicolet, the Ligier JS P2 made an immediate statement with pole position and a second-place finish at Le Mans. The momentum quickly carried forward, as Ligier claimed the FIA World Endurance Championship LMP2 title in 2015, before entering the history books in 2016—becoming the first and only French manufacturer to win the Rolex 24 at Daytona overall, and the first since Ferrari in 1998 to sweep Daytona, Sebring, and Petit Le Mans the same year.

Strengthening the Ligier ecosystem in North America

With this new prize, Ligier Automotive North America further strengthens its support for teams and drivers competing in Ligier LMP3 chassis within IMSA competition. The initiative underscores Ligier’s long-term commitment to creating tangible progression opportunities—from entry-level prototype racing to the global stage of endurance racing.
