After Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational, Mustang Challenge Resumes on IMSA Calendar at Road America
Mustang Challenge heads to the famed Elkhart Lake’s Road America in Plymouth, Wisconsin August 1-3, for the third of its six-weekend season. The dual-class championship returns to racing after a break in the schedule following the series’ trip overseas for the first Le Mans Invitational.
A total of 44 Mustangs will hit the track this weekend around the world with Ford Performance. Eighteen of them will race in Mustang Challenge.
Sam Paley Returning to Mustang Challenge Competition
Ford Performance Junior Team driver Sam Paley is making his return to Mustang Challenge at Road America, coming back to a track where he swept the weekend last year. Paley recently raced in a Dark Horse R at the Le Mans Invitational, where he scored podiums in both races. Earlier this year, he competed in a Mustang GT4 in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge with McCumbee McAleer Racing. This weekend, he will be racing under the Paley Motorsport brand, which is own driver coaching business.
“I’m very excited to be back in the IMSA Mustang Challenge with the support of Ford Performance, and especially at a place where we did very well last year. It’s truly special to be doing it with my own program Paley Motorsport this time, and after our strong showing at Le Mans, I’m very confident in our pace and our program’s ability.”
Alfonso Diaz Continues to Build Momentum
Alfonso Diaz currently sits second in the Dark Horse Legends class championship, and he is on a five-race streak of class podium finishes. Two of these podiums came at the iconic Circuit de la Sarthe during the Le Mans Invitational, where he finished third in the first race and claimed a class victory in the second.
