Lamborghini Finalizes GTP Lineup with Cairoli, Grosjean

The No. 63 Lamborghini SC63 Will Make Its First WeatherTech Championship Start at Sebring

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Following completion of testing at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas, Lamborghini Squadra Corse has named the final Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) driver lineup that will compete in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s endurance races starting with the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March.

Formula One and IndyCar Series veteran Romain Grosjean and FIA World Endurance Championship GT driver Matteo Cairoli will join previously named Andrea Caldarelli in the No. 63 Iron Lynx Lamborghini SC63. Caldarelli will drive in January’s Rolex 24 At Daytona in an Iron Lynx entry in the GT Daytona Pro (GTD PRO) class.

“I am ready to give the best of myself next year,” said Cairoli, the 27-year-old Italian. “Clearly, it’s a dream I have been chasing for a long time and to do it with an Italian brand as an Italian driver has given me even more motivation. The aim is to learn as much as possible about the car for next year, but I am already pumped for the start of the season.”

Grosjean, too, is eager for the opportunity after making his debut as a Lamborghini factory driver this year at Daytona and Sebring in the GTD PRO class.

“I’m very excited about the whole Lamborghini LMDh project,” he said. “It has been amazing to see the car being born, test it and finally reveal it. I cannot wait for us to hit the track racing. I have two great teammates, and I look forward to seeing what we can do against the best manufacturers in the world.”

The COTA test was the second on American soil for the Lamborghini GTP program, following the IMSA-sanctioned test at Daytona International Speedway on Dec. 6-7. Iron Lynx CEO Andrea Piccini characterized the tests as “positive” as the team and manufacturer prepare to compete in both the WeatherTech Championship and WEC in 2024.

“We have a lot of work still to do to be ready,” Piccini said, “but we are looking forward to the final preparations and to the start of the season.”
