Lamborghini SC63 Prototype Completes Three-Day Test in Spain

Andrea Caldarelli and Romain Grosjean Put More Than 1,200 Miles on the GTP Car ahead of 2024 Racing Debut

BRASELTON, Ga. – As the current Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) competitors focus this week on the finish of the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season, a new-for-2024 GTP runner was testing in Spain. Lamborghini Squadra Corse and Iron Lynx completed a three-day developmental test of the Lamborghini SC63 LMDh car at Circuito de Almeria that will compete in select 2024 IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup events.

The test, featuring Lamborghini factory drivers Andrea Caldarelli and Romain Grosjean at the wheel, focused on reliability and procedural testing covering nearly 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles). It included full-course yellow and restart simulations to help the team and drivers better prepare for their debut in both the WeatherTech Championship and FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

The test marked the first time in the SC63 for Grosjean, the Formula 1 and IndyCar driver who has driven in a pair of WeatherTech Championship races this season for Lamborghini and Iron Lynx in the Grand Touring Daytona Pro (GTD PRO) class.

“It was a very intense three days, but I am very happy to have been able to work the team and the car on the track for the first time,” Grosjean said. “The car proved to be very good from the first laps and I can’t wait to put even more kilometers on it during the next tests.

“The car felt really good from the beginning, but obviously we still have a bit of a journey (ahead),” he added. “But the work that has been done prior to my arrival has been very good and I am looking forward to learning more about the car.”

Lamborghini and Iron Lynx will continue testing next week in Europe before moving to the United States to continue the homologation process with tests on North American tracks. The planned race debut is at the WEC race in Qatar in March, with the WeatherTech Championship debut to come later in 2024.
