Ashton Harrison, Tom Long and Kyle Marcelli Will Drive the No. 93 Acura in 12-Hour Race
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Wayne Taylor Racing, the powerhouse team in the Daytona Prototype international (DPi) class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, is joining with Racers Edge Motorsports to enter an Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 in the Grand Touring Daytona Pro (GTD PRO) class for next month’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts.
WTR development driver Ashton Harrison will make her WeatherTech Championship debut in the No. 93 Acura, paired with veteran drivers Tom Long and Kyle Marcelli for the March 19 race at Sebring International Raceway.
“This is a really fun and exciting opportunity for Racers Edge Motorsports,” said Jon Mirachi, president and CEO of Racers Edge Motorsports. “Wayne Taylor Racing has tremendous experience and success in endurance racing and merging that with our expertise and experience with the Acura NSX GT3 is a great combination. Add in HPD’s unmatched technical support and we’re confident we have a really strong effort.”
Harrison is a graduate of the Honda Performance Development Driver Academy operated by Racers Edge and has driven for WTR the past three years in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America single-make development series. Harrison finished second in the LSTNA Am class standings last year with three wins.
Long is the longtime Mazda driver and Harrison’s driver coach who finished third in the 2013 IMSA GX class standings with four wins. He also won the Touring Car (TCR) class championship along with Britt Casey Jr. in the 2018 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season.
Marcelli, the 31-year-old Canadian, is the 2020 Michelin Pilot Challenge Grand Sport (GS) co-champion with Nate Stacy. An HPD Driver Academy coach, Marcelli has four career wins in IMSA’s top-tier series but hasn’t raced in the WeatherTech Championship since 2018.
“We have been looking for some time on a way to put together a GTD program,” said Travis Hogue, general manager at Wayne Taylor Racing. “It’s the next level for the program that we currently run in Super Trofeo in order to give our drivers a place to grow and develop within the IMSA WeatherTech platform. Racers Edge worked really well with HPD and Ashton in the academy last year, and I think they fit the overall brand that Wayne Taylor Racing strives to present. The package we have put together is strong.”
