Porsche Calls on Champion Drivers for GTP Effort

Campbell, Jaminet, Nasr and Cameron Are Among Those Named to Drive the Porsche 963 at the Rolex 24

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Porsche Penske Motorsport has loaded its lineup with past champions as the team plunges into Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) competition in 2023.

Four of the six drivers named to drive the two Porsche 963 cars in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season opener, the Rolex 24 At Daytona next month, have each captured season titles in the series. The Porsche GTP lineups for both the WeatherTech Championship and FIA World Endurance Championship were revealed Saturday during Porsche’s annual “Night of Champions” festivities in Germany.

Mathieu Jaminet and Nick Tandy will drive the No. 6 Porsche 963 for the full 2023 WeatherTech Championship season, with Dane Cameron joining them for the Rolex 24 before he slides over to the WEC program for the remainder of the season. Driving duties for the No. 7 Porsche 963 fall to Matt Campbell and Felipe Nasr for the full season, with Michael Christensen the third driver for the Rolex 24.

Jaminet and Campbell are the reigning GTD PRO class champions when they teamed in the Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R. Nasr was the 2021 Daytona Prototype international (DPi) champion when he drove for Action Express Racing. Cameron is a three-time champion, most recently in 2019 as part of the Acura Team Penske DPi program. Tandy is a two-time season runner-up in the former GT Le Mans (GTLM) class, in 2019 with the Porsche GT Team and 2021 with Corvette Racing.

The hybrid-based GTP class succeeds DPi as the top prototype level in 2023. Nine cars representing four manufacturers are on the entry list for the Rolex 24 in one of the most highly anticipated class debuts in years.

The Roar Before the Rolex 24 kicks off the 2023 season with three days of testing, Jan. 20-22 at Daytona International Speedway, culminating with Rolex 24 qualifying. Rolex 24 At Daytona activities run Jan. 26-29. The 24-hour race is set to start at 1:40 p.m. ET Saturday, Jan. 28.
