BMW recently celebrated the five-millionth vehicle – a Toronto Red Metallic BMW X5 M Competition equipped with a 617-horsepower M TwinPower Turbo V-8 engine – produced at its Greer, SC plant and this weekend BMW of North America is supplying two BMW X5 M SAVs to serve as the safety and pace cars for the Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway. BMW’s South Carolina facility is the largest BMW plant in the world and employs more than 11,000 people who build BMW X3, X4, X5, X6 and X7 models for the U.S. market and the world.
Last week, BMW Team RLL driver Connor De Phillippi spent some time behind the wheel of a BMW X5 M at VIRginia International Raceway. Before leaving the Spartanburg area he visited the BMW Performance Center, the Zentrum, and said hello to an old friend.
This weekend Connor will trade the X5 M for the No. 25 BMW Team RLL BMW M8 GTE he co-drives with Bruno Spengler, to compete in the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR.
