DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – In 2019, Hyundai embarked on its inaugural season of IMSA competition, with Bryan Herta Autosport fielding a pair of Veloster N TCR machines in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.
The new-to-IMSA program was anything but new to racing. As a driver, Herta was a race winner in both IndyCars and IMSA. As a team owner, Herta’s organization had won the Indianapolis 500 and races in Indy Lights, Global Rallycross and World Challenge – where his team won a championship in 2018 before moving to IMSA.
That pedigree of success followed the team into the Michelin Pilot Challenge in 2019, as both of the team’s Hyundai Veloster N machines were competitive throughout the season, which concluded with co-drivers Mark Wilkins and Michael Lewis bringing home the TCR championship in the No. 98 entry.
A Motor Trend video crew embedded with the team to document its debut IMSA season in 2019. That seven-episode series, entitled “Pole Position: Next Level” is available here:
As Hyundai looks to defend its title in the 2020 Michelin Pilot Challenge, the Motor Trend crew is back for a new series titled “Pole Position: Quest for the Championship.” This year, the Bryan Herta Autosport team has shuffled its driver lineups and added a third Veloster N to the mix, while at the same time welcoming a two-car Hyundai program from Forty7 Motorsports to the equation.
